2008 PROGRAMS

The Cook County Tennis Association (CCTA) members invite residents and vacationers to join our association and participate in our programs. By working together, we will strengthen existing programs and discover new ways to promote and enjoy the lifetime sport of tennis.

USTA Jr. Team Tennis - Spring Session
(Age/Skill Level Divisions)

The QuickStart Divisions are for youth, ages 10 & under and 8 & under. This exciting new play format is designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. No experience necessary! The Stars & Stripes Division is designed for players who are a bit older (11 - 18) and at a higher skill level. Fee: $25. For more information, call John Muus at 387-2198.

USTA Team Tennis (Adults)

This program offers an opportunity to play organized matches in a friendly atmosphere. The emphasis is on fun, fitness, and the social benefits of tennis. USTA Team Tennis will be scheduled two evenings during the week. Intermediate to advanced (rating of 3.0 and above) players will play on Monday evenings, beginning June 2 (see schedule) Fee: $20, and must be current CCTA member. Beginning or less advanced (rating of 1.0 - 2.5) players will play on Tuesday evenings, beginning July 1 (see schedule), after the Tennis Fundamentals program ends. Fee: $10. Recreational Tennis (Youth/Adults) - Winter Sessions

For those who want to hit some tennis during the winter months, one court will be set up in the Community Ed. gym (old h.s. gym), Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7 - 9 PM, Tues. - Fri. mornings, 9-11 AM, and Sundays, Noon - 6 PM, during the months of October - April. Fee: $2 / session. Watch for more information.

Tennis Fundamentals (Adults)

This low-cost, introductory instructional program is for adults and will be held June 10 - 26, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30 - 5 PM (Seniors only) and 6:30 - 8 PM (any adults). It is designed to teach basic skills quickly to new or rusty players in a group environment. After completing these six sessions of basic instruction and drills, players are encouraged to sign up for USTA Team Tennis, where they have an opportunity to play organized matches against opponents, at the same ability level, in a friendly atmosphere. Some instruction will also be included in the USTA Team Tennis for beginners or advanced beginner players. Fee: $25.

National Junior Tennis League

This program is for youth 5 to 18 years of age. Players will be grouped into one of two or three divisions depending on age and/or ability level. The QuickStart play format will be used for players, ages 10 and under. Instruction will be part of this program that will run June 10 - July 17. See Schedule of Events for more details. Cardio Tennis

All ages and skill levels are invited to participate in this 1 hour aerobic workout where you have an opportunity to practice hitting a variety of tennis shots, fed by tennis teaching pros or advanced players, while moving at your own pace to some lively music. Be prepared to move and sweat! Thursday evenings, July 3 - Aug. 14 (except 7/31/08), 6:30 - 7:30 PM, at the public tennis courts. Fee: $2 / session. Open / Recreational Tennis

Open to all players. Bring your racquet and matches will be arranged among those who show up. Fridays, 4:00 – 5:30 PM, May 23 - Aug. 22, at the public tennis courts. No fee.

Cook County Tennis Block Party

A fun-filled event for all ages and skill levels, offering free tennis instruction by teaching pros along with a variety of fun tennis activities, music, food and prizes. Activities begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a free lunch, summer program information session, and a drawing for door prizes. Concludes at 1:00 PM. Just show up, May 3rd, at the public tennis courts. The event is free and everything is provided.

CCTA Team Challenge

All adult CCTA members who have paid their 2008 membership dues are invited to participate in this fun team doubles competition. This event will follow the Cook County Tennis Block Party and will be held from 1:30 – 4:00 PM, May 3rd, at the public tennis courts. Players will be divided up into teams and will have an opportunity to use a unique match-play format.

Jr. Regional Competitive Training Center

This 2-day training center is for junior players interested in playing in tournaments and becoming more competitive players. Pat Colbert, USTA Northern, will be the clinician.
